BUSY WEEK, Last Week!

Last week was VBS (Vacation Bible School) at our church.  Here is the sanctuary without children.  The theme was aviation.  Do you see the rope lights by the chairs?  They are supposed to mimic runway lights at an airport.
When classes are over for the day, the parents who are not teachers line up to pick up their children.  They find the banner for their youngest child's class.  Runners are behind each banner.
The parents have been given a card from the children's department with the names of their children.  The card is given to a runner who goes into the sanctuary to 'retrieve and deliver' the children to the parents.  If you don't have the card, you are not allowed to take the child without going through some identification process and possibly a phone call.  This is for security purposes to keep the children safe.  I don't know the exact number but some said we had around 1,000 students and teachers in attendance last week.

Many families come into the library after picking up their children to check out more books or to cash in their tickets for one of these prizes.  All ages love 'shopping in our store"!  As mentioned in a previous blog, the numbers on the boards match up to bins in our back office.
Currently there are 598 children enrolled in our summer reading program.  We know that our church's daycare has fifty others reading, too.  They will be added to the total next month.

All Aboard for Reading!!!

This is how the back counter looked at the beginning of the week - - - all cleared off and ready for the "General Store".  Additional shelving was added.
Prizes were sorted and put in individual shoe boxes.

A prize from each box is put on the pegboard.  It has clear plexiglass doors and will be placed near the bookshelves for the children to see.

As you can see, each prize is given a number.  Even different colors of the same item receive their own number.  That way when we are in a hurry, we don't have to stop ask, "What color do you want?"

The numbers on the pegboard correspond to the shoe boxes in the back room.  We also put a description of the item on each label.
Just another view.
A bit of a close-up.
 A few cars.
 Some stickers - 10 to a sheet.
Self-explanatory.
Parachute people.
We are ready for you to come in to the library - - - fill out your registration form - - check out some books and take home a prize or two!   See ya sometime Monday - Thursday between 9 and 3:30 - - - or on Sunday morning!

Library Training & Summer Reading

On Tuesday night, May 8, at Candies Creek Baptist, we will have our Bradley Baptist Associational Library Meeting.  Training will be introduced for librarians and their workers.  Let me tell you how important this was to me.

Years ago, I was only a library volunteer who applied for and got the director's position at FBC Cleveland.  The materials we will be presenting on Tuesday evening contain the books of knowledge that taught me everything I know about library administration and processing of materials.  The more my workers and I learned, the more our library ministry for our Lord increased.

If you are interested in attending this meeting, call our library at 709-9100 or you can email me at Lharrington@clevelandfbc.com.

This week we unpacked the toy prizes for the children's summer reading program which begins May 20 - - - in just two short weeks!!!  However, if you are reading this and want to come in for early registration  - - and prizes - - - - you may do that beginning May 15.  We are very excited to have your preschoolers - grade 12 come and visit us soon!
